Back2Basics YoYo International is a long-term online yoyo contest open for all players around the world. The contest aim for players to undergo the fundamentals or basics of yoyoing before proceeding to a freestyle contest.

The contest is held online via video submission. Joining the contest is FREE. Everyone is encouraged to join, from old school to new generation players.

Back2Basics YoYo International will be held from February to September 2021. There will be a Freestyle Challenge Livestream Event via YouTube on October 23, 2021.

Prizes such as cash, yoyo products, apparel and many more await the winners.

YoYo Challenge Rules

1. Make a video doing the Basic, Super and Hyper Level tricks correctly and in the proper order. Players should USE RESPONSIVE YOYOS for Basic to Hyper Level tricks. BIND RETURN IS NOT ALLOWED WHEN DOING TRICKS FOR BASIC TO HYPER LEVEL. ADJUSTABLE GAP YOYOS ARE NOT ALLOWED.

2. Players should USE THE SAME YOYO FOR EACH TRICK, EXCEPT FOR LOOP THE LOOP (3x, 10x and 30x), 3 LEAF CLOVER and DOUBLE LOOP. Players can only change yoyos for the tricks mentioned above.

3. There is a point system for each trick in each level. Please read the point system carefully.

5 POINTS - perfect execution of trick after one (1) attempt
3 POINTS - perfect execution of trick after two (2) attempts
1 POINT - perfect execution of trick after three (3) attempts

4. ONE (1) POINT WILL BE GIVEN to the player IF THE FIRST ATTEMPT FOR THE TRICK WAS INCORRECT BUT PROCEEDED TO THE NEXT TRICK IMMEDIATELY.

5. When shooting or making the video, IT IS RECOMMENDED TO MAKE A TRICK AREA or TRICK BOX WHERE THE PLAYER WILL ATTEMPT EACH TRICK. When the player is inside the trick box, the trick should be attempted. A player cannot do a test throw while inside the trick box. Test throws can only be done outside the trick box. Any throw inside the trick box is already considered an attempt for the trick.

6. If the player has not done the trick perfectly after three (3) attempts, zero (0) or no point will be given for the trick. Proceed to the next trick after three (3) incorrect attempts.

7. The player should do each trick for each level in one continuous shot when filming. EDITS OR CUTS IN THE VIDEO IS NOT ALLOWED.

8. Follow the video title format below for video submission.

9. SUBMISSION OF ENTRY FOR EACH LEVEL CAN ONLY BE DONE ONCE. There are two (2) ways to submit an entry: a) Submission of one level per video entry, or b) Submission as a whole from Basic, Super and Hyper Level in one video entry.

10. Upload the video on YouTube. Paste the YouTube video link on the registration part at the bottom of the website. Players CAN SUBMIT ENTRIES for Basic to Hyper Level FROM FEBRUARY 8 TO JULY 31, 2021.

Compulsory Tricks Challenge Rules

1. The Compulsory Tricks Challenge is only open FOR PLAYERS WHO HAVE COMPLETED AND PASSED THE BASIC TO HYPER LEVEL CHALLENGE.

2. Compulsory Tricks are considered as the FOUNDATION TRICKS FOR 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A at 5A. Joining the Compulsory Tricks Challenge is optional but it will help in learning the foundation tricks for each division or play style of yoyoing.

3. If the player is already a FREESTYLE QUALIFIER and joined the Compulsory Tricks Challenge, the player will receive BONUS POINTS for the Freestyle Challenge. Read the details below.

• Player submitted 1A COMPULSORY TRICKS video - 2 BONUS POINTS in the Final Score for the Freestyle Challenge for Single (1A) Division

• Player submitted 2A or 3A COMPULSORY TRICKS video - 2 BONUS POINTS in the Final Score for the Freestyle Challenge for Dual (2A / 3A) Division

• Player submitted 4A or 5A COMPULSORY TRICKS video - 2 BONUS POINTS in the Final Score for the Freestyle Challenge for Aerial (4A / 5A) Division
4. There will be no point system for Compulsory Tricks Challenge entries. Players just need to DO THE TRICKS AS PERFECT AS POSSIBLE for the video entry.

5. EDITING OR CUTTING THE VIDEO IS ALLOWED for the Compulsory Tricks Challenge. Follow the video title format below.

6. All players who will join the Compulsory Tricks Challenge will have a CHANCE TO WIN IN A YOYO GIVEAWAY.

Compulsory Tricks Tutorial

FREESTYLE QUALIFYING

1. The Freestyle Challenge aims to IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE EVALUATION of players and to DISCOVER AND SHOWCASE THEIR OWN OR ORIGINAL STYLE WHEN PLAYING.

2. Only those who submitted video entries for Basic to Hyper Level will be allowed to join the Freestyle Challenge.

3. To join the Freestyle Challenge, PLAYERS SHOULD REACH THE QUALIFYING SCORE. The player's qualifying score depends on the total points combined from Basic, Super and Hyper Level video entries. See the details of the qualifying score below.

Minimum Qualifying Score - 90 POINTS (combined Basic, Super and Hyper Level score)

3. There are three (3) divisions for the Freestyle Challenge. See the details below.

SINGLE DIVISION - 1A (string tricks)
DUAL DIVISION - 2A / 3A (double looping / double string tricks)
AERIAL DIVISION - 4A / 5A (off-string / counterweight tricks)

4. The FREESTYLE CHALLENGE IS A ROUTINE FOR 2 MINUTES. DEADLINE FORFREESTYLE CHALLENGE VIDEO SUBMISSION IS ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2021.

5. There will be a Freestyle Challenge live streaming event via YouTube on OCTOBER 23, 2021.

FREESTYLE RULES

MUSIC GUIDELINES

• Music for the Freestyle should only be 2 minutes maximum.
MUSIC SHOULD BE RATED "G" OR APPROVED FOR GENERAL AUDIENCE. We will strictly prohibit music withCURSE WORDS, OR WITH THEME ABOUT SEX, VIOLENCE OR RACISM.
• Players will be asked to submit another Freestyle entry if there are violations with muisic guidelines.


VIDEO SHOOTING GUIDELINES

• Players are strongly recommended to shoot video on LANDSCAPE ORIENTATION. Follow the 16:9 aspect ratio or format for video shooting.
• Filming of the routine should be done in one continuous shot. EDITS OR CUTS IN THE ROUTINE VIDEO ARE NOT ALLOWED.
• Make sure that tricks can be seen clearly.
• Wear dark-colored shirts so judges can easily see the tricks.
• Routine should start with the yoyo on the player's hand.
• Players will be asked to submit another Freestyle entry if there are violations with video shooting guidelines.
VIDEO SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

• Upload the Freestyle video on YouTube. MAKE SURE THAT VIDEOS ARE UNLISTED.
• Follow the video title format below.

• All submitted videos submitted for Freestlyle Challenge will be uploaded to the Back2Basics YoYo International YouTube channel.
• If there are any violations of the music, video shooting and video submission guidelines, players will be asked to submit another Freestyle video until the deadline of the Freestyle video submission.
• Freestyle Challenge video submission deadline is on SEPTEMBER 25, 2021.

FREESTYLE SCORING

TECHNICAL EXECUTION - 40%
-Positive Clicks
-Negative Clicks

1. There are POSITIVE CLICKS/POINTS FOR EVERY CORRECT ELEMENT (in a trick or combo) done by the player. There will be NEGATIVE CLICKS/POINTS FOR EVERY MISTAKE IN THE EXECUTION OF EACH ELEMENT OR TRICK.

2. AN ELEMENT IS A PART OF A TRICK OR COMBO such as but not limited to string landing, whip, laceration, hook, loops, around the world, bind return, grind, regen, suicide element, horizontals, body wraps, orbits, aerial, tangler, stall, finger spin and many others.

3. Clickers are used to COUNT THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE POINTS. To get the clicker score, NEGATIVE POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM THE POSITIVE POINTS.

4. The highest possible TECHNICAL EXECUTION SCORE a player can get is 40 POINTS. This is 40% of the Freestyle Score of the player.

5. This is done to LESSEN THE GAP OF PROFESSIONAL AND AMATEUR PLAYERS in the part of Technical Execution. See the sample scoring for Technical Execution below.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION - 60%
-Overall assessment of the routine
-Criteria scored from 0 (lowest) to 10 (highest)

1. CLEANLINESS AND FLOW - 20%
• Controlled movement of yoyo, string and body.
• Little to no test throw and mistakes in tricks or combos.
• Momentum does not stop in the middle of doing tricks or combos.

2. CREATIVITY AND ORIGINALITY - 20%
• Player's style of play is unique compared to most of the players.
• Tries to present own element, trick or combo.

3. MUSIC USE AND THEME - 10%
• Music is fit with the player's character and routine.
• Obvious music cue usage. Can match the movement of yoyo, string and body with the beat of the music.

4. SHOWMANSHIP - 10%
• Player can express the theme of the routine through the camera or audience.
• Tries to make interaction or connection with the audience through the camera.
